The amazing growth and achievements of our TRFC girls

As we head towards the end of the season, we wanted to share the incredible growth and achievements of our girls - from representing TRFC in the Surrey Cup and playing county rugby for Middlesex though to annual trips to watch the Red Roses at the Allianz Stadium and being coached by England Hooker Connie Powell.

Building the squad
The last few years have seen us grow from a handful of dedicated girls joining up with the boys’ squads to a dedicated girls’ squad of over 50. The girls are spread across 3 age groups and include girls from other local clubs including Harlequins Amateurs and London Irish. This means that we regularly get in excess of 40 girls at training at Udney on a Wednesday night whatever the weather!

It's also not just about playing and training - one of the highlights of the season is our annual trip to the Allianz Stadium (aka Twickenham!) to see the Red Roses play in the Six Nations, and this year promises to be no different when 80 girls and their parents attend the France game on 26th April.

This past season also saw a record number of the U16 squad join the Middlesex County program – attending training every Monday night at Grasshoppers where they work on developing their skills alongside some of the County’s top talent and being selected for matches against Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We are also delighted to announce that a handful of the squad have been invited to trial for the England PDG (Player Development Group) later this summer – watch this space!

Coaching Team – Led by the one and only Lucy
Our coaching team, led by Lucy, continues to play a central role in the growth of the girls' section. Lucy is one of the few female coaches in the Southeast, and her leadership has been invaluable to our girls. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to every training session, ensuring that each player receives the guidance and support they need to thrive. We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated coach, and Lucy’s commitment to the girls’ section is truly inspiring.

Looking Ahead to next season
While we continue to grow the existing squads, 2025/26 will also see the first ever U18 girls squad at TRFC – an unbelievable achievement given where we started just a few years ago.
We’re also looking to purchase matchday shirts for all the age groups so if you know anyone who’d be willing to sponsor us and have their logo on our shirts then let us know!
