Colts knocked out of Surrey Cup

Teddington Colts cup progress halted in an entertaining game at Twickenham

Teddington Colts made the short trip to local friends and rivals Twickenham on Sunday for the quarter final of the Surrey Cup. The spring sunshine came out and a big crowd was assembled. Prior to kick off there was a minute’s applause for Teddington’s Justin de Ferry, father of junior players Dylan and Marcus who so sadly passed away recently – a respectful gesture from our hosts, to which we are very grateful.
Into the game, and after thwarting early pressure by Twickenham, it was the Antlers who took the lead, as second row Sam WOOLLACOTT showed some serious pace to cut through the hosts defence and score under the posts. Josh HAGON converted to put Antlers 0-7 to the good. Twickenham came back though with an unconverted try before skipper HAGON darted over and added the extras to take the lead to 5-14. In an end to end first half Twickenham responded with their second try, before adding a penalty kick to edge in front. They then scored a third try after a lovely cross kick was gathered and then touched down in the right corner; a try that opened up a bit of daylight on the scoreboard. As the first half drew to a close, Teddington made it three trys apiece as centre Marley CROSBY scored to edge them in front 20-21 at the break. With the game in the balance, it was Twickenham who turned the screw in the second half, scoring two trys and taking the game out to 32-21. With time running out, Teddington needed something to get back in the game, which they got when Laurence PEDRICK WILLIAMS scorched down the left wing to score. HAGON just missed the difficult conversion leaving them needing a converted try to rescue a victory. It was Twickenham however who had the final say, as they crossed over in the final play of the game to seal their spot in the semifinal. Good luck to them in the next round. Final Score Twickenham Colts 39 Teddington Colts 26.
