Teddington got back to winning ways on Saturday, with a hard-earned win against an Old Haberdashers side who put in a performance which belied their position at the foot of the table. The Antlers were still missing some key players due to injury, so the squad depth was tested again as Henry HUGHES, Tom PUGH and Lucian GOULD continued their fledgling 1st XV careers in the pack, with youngster David BRADFORD was ready to come off the bench. There was also a welcome return to action for experienced centre Huw MORGAN. After a competitive opening 20 minutes, Bob BEEVERS got the first points on the board with a penalty, before a midfield break from Harry SMITH led to a try for Alfie RANSOM under the sticks. With BEEVERs adding the conversion and a further penalty, the hosts looked in a good position, but Old Habs hit back with a converted try to close the gap to 13-7 at the break. Turning around and going down the hill, Teddington were quick to reestablish the gap on the scoreboard as Tom WILLIAMS finished a fine move in the left-hand corner, only for Haberdashers to respond with a 7 pointer of their own. The game felt in the balance, but Antlers played into their favourite left-hand corner, scoring two very similar trys through Josh McKIERNAN and Lucian GOULD to take a 32-14 lead. Still, they couldn’t shake off the visitors though. Olly HOLLAND was sent to the bin for a high shot – the only blemish on an otherwise outstanding afternoon in the loose, and Haberdashers took full use of the extra man, scoring two more trys, securing their own try scoring bonus point and closing the score to 32-26. A nervy last few minutes remained, but up stepped centre Harry SMITH, now on the wing, who broke down the left chipped ahead, gathered the bounce and sealed the game for Teddington. An entertaining match that was in the balance for most of it. Teddington will be glad of the 5 points, which keeps them in 8th position in the league table. Final Score Teddington RFC 39 Old Haberdashers RFC 26. Man of the Match Olly HOLLAND
The 2nd XV had a rearranged friendly at Chiswick, after Old Tiffinians had conceded the league game on Friday. Another strong performance from the 2nds who are now starting to put together a good run of form. There were trys for Ethan DAVIES, Euan GRAY and two for Sam AMES. A solid win before next week’s home league game against Weybridge Vandals. Final Score Chiswick 2nd XV 14 Teddington 2nd XV 25.
