To maintain the high standards of our matches and foster a positive environment for players, we urgently need to address the shortage of qualified referees across all age groups.

Key Requirements for Referee Coverage

For U9 to U11 Age Groups: A minimum of two qualified referees is essential. These early years are crucial for developing players’ understanding of the game, and having two referees ensures close monitoring, safety, and consistency on the field.
For U12 to U18 Age Groups: At least one qualified referee per age group is a must. As the players progress, the games become faster and more competitive, making the presence of a skilled referee critical for smooth gameplay.

Fairness and Safety: With proper oversight, matches are fair and safe, reducing the risk of injuries and disputes.
Retention of Players: One of the main reasons players quit rugby is poor quality refereeing. Inconsistent decisions, lack of understanding of the rules, and unsafe play caused by inadequate officiating lead to frustration and disengagement. By prioritising qualified referees, we ensure players enjoy the game and stay committed to their rugby journey.
Independent Refereeing for Every Match: Ensuring we have a minimum number of referees per age group will guarantee that the club can appoint an independent referee for every home match. This fosters an environment of impartiality and professionalism, strengthening trust among players, coaches, and parents.

We strongly encourage Young Match Officials (YMO) to step forward and become part of our referee team.
